I caught maybe 5 minutes of one of Bellarmine's conference games this year. I noted the team passed well, worked for an open shot, was disciplined and had excellent teamwork. Old school team basketball by a team that didn't seem to be particularly quick or athletic.
What I have seen in the stats confirms those observations. Four players average in double figures, from 13.3
to 11.8 ppg. This shows they share the ball.
Looking at the ASUN conference only stats, they lead the league in FG %, 3 Point FG %, and assists per game.
This would send Epper (remember him) on a incontrollable rant: they are tied with UNF for the highest 3 point percentage, while have the fewest trey attempts in the league. They take the 3 when it's open.
The Owls path to victory? Maybe we can push up the pace of the game to take them out of their comfort zone or smother them with pressure defense. It's 6 games into Bellarmine's initial conference season, they have been competitive in all of them and are on a 4 game win streak. I don't think they will be rattled easily. We are just going to have to find a way to play better than they do.
