Stetson comes to this game having won 40% of their conference games, which seems a little disappointing for them, as I figured they would be building on last year's success. Looking at their conference schedule, they dropped 2 to Bellarmine (the current conference leader), and split games with UNA, Liberty, FGCU and Lipscomb. There are really no embarrassing losses there.
If you flip back to November, cupcake Emmanuel College tripped them up, but it was their first game after a COVID pause so I don't read too much into that one.
The bottom line, its a good but definitely beatable team for the Owls. We just have not seen this Owls squad rise to the occasion and take a game from a team like this. In order to dream about bypassing the play in game of the conference tourney, the Owls will need to take both of these games.
Stetson returns Super Rob Perry, Jones, Diawara, Kabimba, and Panzo, and they have some good looking freshman, including Chase Johnston who scores nearly as much as Perry and 6'8 Josh Smith. With the young talent under Coach Donnie Jones, this team will be force to be reckoned with if not this years, maybe in years to come.
