OwlFan Shepherd is good but still too inconsistent throwing it. Murphy is definitely serviceable but I dont think I'd be comfortable with him as first option.

If we switch up the offense a bit, maybe it'll be easier for QBs coming in to learn it

Two words: Art Briles. Someone is going to hire him. We might as well take advantage. KSU would be electric on offense, Recruiting connections in Texas. Briles would make us very competitive in CUSA. Thoughts?

The controversy would help us deter suitors from hiring Briles away. Say what you want, Liberty used a similar strategy with Hugh Freeze and it’s worked out for them.

Lol at Art Briles..He is 66 and presided over an awful scandal.. I'm doubtful we see any coaching changes. Bo and Chestnut are tied together at the hip. If nothing else maybe we add another QB coach co-offensive coordinator type to get the offense ready for FBS competition. One thing that is painfully obvious is the need for an actual QB as opposed to a running back who can throw a little, which all of our current QBs really are.

I do have to admit I'm a little frustrated at the administration and coaching staff about the total silence around the CUSA move. Outside of Overton's brief statement I've not heard anyone associated with the athletic department even mention anything. I'm also surprised as i see the visiting recruits that we are still targeting tiny little receivers and undersized offensive linemen. I truly hope Bo doesn't plan on going FBS with a pure flexbone, especially since it obviously isn't even working well any longer against ASun schools..

Yeah, if you want people to get excited you have to talk about it. That's how you get people to donate money. I've been following the CUSA rebuild since last year, and the folks st JSU and Sam Houston were constantly chattering about their plans.

Lol I am surprised Overton even spoke about it for the brief time that he did. Not like he can even be bothered to make it to the UTM game or stay past the first half of the AP game, guys a joke. CUSA needs to be talked about and pushed way more but I am willing to bet that comes more next year, we where still technically in the running for a share of the A sun title so I bet they didn't want to step on any toes with the mid season announcement.

All the talk on the boards of getting rid of Bo is absolutely blasphemous as well... the man has the most successful college football startup in history.... how ignorant can you be? I don't know why I ask that because plenty of you show it very clearly on these boards lol. The offense needs to adapt 100% a lot of that will come naturally with the move to FBS (opens up the pool of players you are able to attract) I look for us to move more and more to a Coastal Carolina type offense, this isn't going to be overnight even though I do think this off season the roster will be flipped by 15+ guys. A lot of the guys you see on the sidelines of the games are non offer kids (they give away game unofficial visits like candy, it means nothing)

To give credit where it is due, we have seen the offense try to transform this season already, multiple 20+ passing attempt games, the gun package has been out more than ever. The fact of the matter is these kids just cant execute at a high enough level in the standard offense much less the opened up version. It is very frustrating but lets not act like the sky is falling here... we are not Chuck South (what a fall from grace they've had) or any of the other bottom feeders in the FCS. Down years are natural, and coaching is what keeps the down years from being awful (which is what we are seeing this year)

Liberty was 6-5 their last year of "FCS" with 15 extra fulfilled scholarships, and that included a lost to a terrible Chuck South team. Look at them now, as I said down years happen. Firing the coach that started this program and has had tons of success is not the answer. Especially not for Art Briles lol

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got nothing but respect and admiration for Brian Bohannon and what he has done for the program. However, he is an Option coach, and with the new cut blocking rules, the Triple Option as we run it is dead. Why have an Option guy run an offense he isn’t familiar rather than hire a new coach to run his own system?

My suggestion of Art Briles was a bit sarcastic. My true top choice would be Dell McGee. RBs at UGA. The timing is perfect for a new hire with the transition year and the increase in scholarships.

Hooty only problem with trying to fire bo is that he signed like a 4 or 5 year extension in January so the buyout is gonna be bigger than the athletic department is willing to pay.

We definitely need to self reflect in the offseason. If Chesnut cant execute the offense that we need to run to be successful and get recruits, then I think he would be the one to go before Bo. Bohannon is the CEO...if he says we need to get the Coastal offense, then hire somebody who can bring it in.

The mistake Bo cant make is being too loyal to his coaches. I think he would be well served to bring in an outside evaluator/consultant to look over our roster and game tape in depth. If a coach or player doesnt fit what we need to do to be successful, let them know as soon as possible so they can find a new home.

We have traditionally had A LOT of turnover, especially at WR and Fullback. I don't know how other FCS teams function but it seems we play a lot of walk ons over scholarship guys. Now obviously I want the best player to play, and I am glad we don't force kids who arent as good into the spots, but that just raises more questions about the recruiting.

I don't think Murphy is starting material. Good backup, hell yeah. Shepherd needs to work on consistency. Fact of the matter is, if you have two QBs then you have no quarterbacks (more often than not this is the case).

In my opinion, Bohannon needs to commit to changes. The triple option is a broken offense with the new rule changes and there has always been a point of diminishing returns for the TO when the competition level increases. Thats not to say we should dump all option principles but we need to evolve it to be more modern. If Bo is resistent to changes and stuck in his ways, it may make the most sense to go in a different direction. If we did go elsewhere, I would be looking for our new coach to have extensive head coaching experience. Given we are going through a transition, there is a lot more to KSUs head coaching position than a standard opening. We need somebody who is known for building cultures, schmoozing donors, and is not learning on the job. With all that said, Bo has said this season he is looking to evolve the offense and he does check the boxes listed above. Also, like others have mentioned, Bo is a legend in Kennesaw and built the best startup program of all time. I think he deserves a chance to get things right.

Tony Ingle was a legend and KSU treated him like shit. But Tony got the last word when he went out and won another national championship at his next stop. Meanwhile our program still hasn't recovered.

bb_fan To be fair, a big part of the reason Ingle got fired was because he let the academic situation on the team get out of control. IIRC, we barely had any schollies to give out in his last couple of seasons because we were on serious probation.

BurialGround this is true. I've heard various stories and I'm not sure what's true. Some say the compliance department sucked and didnt inform Ingle of how the rules work with the grades. Others could make an argument that the student in student-athlete comes first always. I do know when Preston came in, things were bad. I think he had like 8-9 scholarship players that first year or something and they wouldn't let him bring in JUCOs because the grades situation was so messy
