Who will start for the Owls? Last year we saw mostly a 4 guard and 1 forward lineup. AAR stated that was not his preference but given the players he had he felt that was his best option.
Given the new recruits, I think Coach Pettway will go with 3 guards and 2 forwards. My early and unscientific prediction of who will start is below.
Guards: Terrell Burden, Simeon Cottle and RJ Johnson
Forwards: Demond Robinson and Rongie Gordon
For the Guards, Burden, a fifth year senior experienced point guard and ASUN tourney MVP, is a no brainer. His senior leadership and ability to score will be definite plusses of the Owls.
Simeon Cotlle, a returning sophomore, showed a lot of poise in the big games last year, and had gotten his share of love on these boards, so I named him a starter.
RJ Johnson, a freshman, joins the Owls after declining offers from 3 SEC programs. He was Mr. Basketball in Alabama and scored more than 20 points/game in his senior year. I think he will get the nod over Quincy and fellow freshman Chase Clemmons who will also see action.
As for the Forwards, Robinson is a lock and Transfer Rongie Gordon from UAB has the most college experience so I have penciled him in as a started. I expect freshman Franquon Sherman and transfer Jamel King to be in the rotation as well.
I have no idea how transfer rules work these days, but I am assuming all players on the roster will be eligible for the first game.
