Not my favorite result but there was a lot to like. Cottle and Johnson are for real. I'd like to see Johnson get more minutes down the line. The kid just has it.

The glaring weakness we have is lack of chemistry with this new offense. We were playing fast but not necessarily under control. That will come with time. it also didn't help that Burden was at 70 percent. But all in all, I like what I see and think we can make a run late in the season.

Regardless of the score, the Owls have only 1 gear- overdrive. FSU’s size and defense gave us fits, but we didn’t do ourselves any favors with some of the out of control sequences. Cottle and Johnson are showing that the future looks good for the Owls.

bb_fan Yeah, one thing I didn't like was our bigs taking so many 3's. I think Robinson and Gordon each took several.

ETA: NAIA that is actually a bit better than Oakwood (184 vs 199) per Massey.

Having said that, it seems the Owls took a number rushed 3's when their feet were not set and/or they were being defended closely. Part of this may be adjustment to Pettway's offense. In AARs offense, there was more passing to the open man, catch and shoot.

There is no stat for this, but I would like to know the air ball percentage. Some of the shots were way off target.

Personally, I don't mind if a big guy takes a 3 if he is a decent shooter and he is wide open, squared up to the basket and has time to get his feet set. Robinson, King, Sherman and LaRue made 3's against Oakwood, when the opportunities where abundant.

Yes, I agree there were too many threes when they could have been better shot selections. I don't know what it is, but the easy twos are being passed up for the threes. I will say this, if we made 11 of our 25 attempts (44%) at 3pointers, the score would have been 87-94, or perhaps even closer. This is something that the team can improve on.

This game came at a perfect time, because they got confidence in the first game to peak high and then have this game to have a reality check. It shows the flaws and where to improve and the difference in the talent level of opponents. The Indiana game will be a good measurement of how far this team has progressed. The execution of hitting the shots was the missing piece. Something that the team can work on. I think we will be a much different team in the season opener than we were on Friday night.

naqvi FGCU gave Indiana everything they could handle, actually leading with 10 minutes left in the game before losing by 6. Indiana also plays N Alabama the week before they play KSU.

KingOwl Aaron has been really good on the show. Clearly has a high basketball IQ but does a nice job translating for the casual fan. Think he'd be a perfect fit for our ESPN+ color commentary if he lived in the area
