If Pettway can't figure out that there are some players who should be prohibited from shooting 3's his next stop is Missisippi Valley State.
Unless you hate James Harden there is nothing worse than watching a team jack up unsuccessful 3's. I'm referring of course to game 7 of the WCF when Houston missed 27 3's in a row (Harden had 10 of em). That was fun to watch.
The solution is easy. Move the line back until the expected value of a 3 is the same as the expected value of a 2. Right now the expected value is about 20% higher for a 3. With the mid range 2 being an afterthought the game has suffered.
TLDR: Analytics state than shooting 3's and layups is the optimal plan of attack. But not everybody should shoot 3's.
