Wingman This week’s games feature a home contest against North Alabama and a trip to Central Arkansas. Wednesday at 7PM the Owls host a struggling UNA team who is 1-4 in conference. There only victory is vs winless Bellarmine.
Kmase14 Our schedule this year really sets up well for the Owls. We get this get right week against some opponents we "should" handle easily and next week's Bellarmine before the biggest game of the season so far vs. EKU with them on the road that week at Queens before coming here. Hopefully we take advantage and get rolling this week heading into some big games end of next week and week after.
Wingman Kmase14 We can’t afford to overlook any team in the conference. Besides the game against Stetson our largest margin of victory has been 4 points.
bb_fan Massey, Pomeroy, and the bookies (including ESPN Bet) all say KSU by 6.0 - 6.5. Seems low to me but ya never know. NCAA NET has KSU at #181 (2nd in ASun) and UNA at #273 (8th in ASun).
bb_fan The Owls are 0-5 at home against North Alabama as a D1 program. Will the mythical home court advantage finally show up tonight?
Wingman Second half scoring: Burden 31 everyone else 10 That was one of our worst shooting % of the year. We never recovered from the run UNA made on us in the middle of the second half.
Wingman I can’t help thinking about this what if scenario. KJ Johnson clobbered Burden with about 1:30 remaining. No foul called. If it was called it would have been Johnson’s 5th. Johnson did most of the scoring and ball handling down the stretch. I guess it doesn’t really matter since UNA outplayed us and deserved to win. But I still wonder how that would have played out if the ref made the right call.
BurialGround As I thought, we're gonna lose a few we shouldn't. Live by the 3, die by the 3. 6 for 30. Ouch.
HootyHooKSU These losses shouldn't surprise us. We have a lot of talent, but all of our D1 wins outside of Stetson have come down to the wire. KSU can beat anyone in our conference at anytime, but this up tempo shooting 3s all the time means lesser teams can take advantage of our off nights easier. I know a lot of fans were upset with the defense last night. But when you play fast and miss a lot of quick 3s, your defense will have trouble getting back and getting set.
Kmase14 I just didn’t get the game plan in the last 7-8 minutes. UNA entire starting lineup was facing foul trouble and we’re throwing up quick 3s and shooting very poorly. I get that’s the game plan and wanting to stick with it, but you got to be able to adjust and take advantage of what the game gives you.
Wingman Next up is UCA in Conway, Arkansas on Saturday at 4PM Eastern. Before conference play, I thought UCA would be one of the worst teams in the conference, but so far, they are holding their own with a 3-3 ASUN record. Their conference victories are over UNA, Bellarmine, and Lipscomb.
Wingman Looking back on these 2 games… Both our opponents have good teams. They have some good scorers and the coaches are capable. Still we should not lose to teams like that regularly. We have more athleticism and a couple of 5th year guys and some experienced transfers. So is this week an anomaly or is this what we can expect facing mid ranked conference teams? It seems throwing up a quick 3 does not take advantage the strengths of our players. I also did not like the late technical on the coach when we still had a small chance of winning.
