UTM wasn't a very physical or organized football team and they whooped us.
I've been pretty positive about Bryson's play this season. He was actually really bad on Saturday. I hated the backup in his time so far. Wildcat? Put the punter back there?
I was really happy to see the longsnapper named a captain. Great game from the punting unit. It's nice that one part of this team put in pretty good performances every single week. I wish it were the offense or defense though.
Our Dline just doesn't get home vs the pass or build a wall vs the run. Our front just isn't helping our DB's. I expected them to look better vs an fcs but our front was overmatched. They looked like 07 Florida every time they ran that little power read on us in 3rd and mediums. We had nothing for it. I have a feeling Rich Rod is going to run that over and over and over Friday night unless we stop it early.
I like the little triple out of the pistol we show where we give it to Daniels in short yardage (I wonder if bryson has a pull option at all or if that's purely window dressing to hold the edge. I don't think we've pulled on it all year). I don't understand the substituting and motions and checking with the sideline on 3rd and shorts. That's been THE short yardage play since week 1. We're not unpredictable and confusing the defense. I'd like to see that come with tempo. It'll be jarring to defenses given how slow we play the rest of the game.
Lack of tempo late was weird. UTM's coaches did a really good job of using our substituting to milk clock. The delay of game on the field goal was us substituting late the UTM coach being clever enough to substitute themselves so the ref wouldn't let us snap. It was very funny, the kid he made run on and off and back on to kill the time looked so confused. We substituted before the 2 minute timeout and their coach grabbed a random DT who understood they were just killing time to match the substitution. I've been whining about us seeming unorganized with substitutions since week 1. Maybe I'm just whiny. Bo gave a weird non-answer about the lack of tempo when we were down two sores late in the postgame.
I generally understand us being a slow tempo team. We're not good and we want the variance from games having fewer plays. But we were a tempo team for years. It's so weird to see we can't turn it on when we need it anymore. When we were a fast tempo team, we could still slow it down for our death marches. Now that were slow, we still need to pick and choose where we turn on the tempo. Controlling tempo feels like a foundational piece of our teams identity over the years. When we're losing games and the staff is ditching parts of the identity built over Bo's tenure what is the benefit of keeping Bo? Is he still trying to keep his job or is he just waiting to get fired?
