MBB Conference Play Week 3

This week we’re at home with 2 games!

Thursday vs. Sam Houston State (Massey 169)
Saturday vs. LA Tech (Massey 95)

Massey doesn’t like us in either game. However ESPN and the betting market likes us in the Thursday game.

Owls are undefeated at home and I feel like they should stay that way through Thursday. I’d be happy with a split if we’re competitive on Saturday. But 2 losses would be a bit tough. Can’t shoot like the first half of the WKU game again.

Hopefully we keep the home court magic going!

Massey has KSU winning one game the rest of the year -- at home against FIU. But 6 of those predicted losses are by 3 points or less (one basket!) so it probably won't be that bleak.

Good win against Sam Houston. I am happy that we are 2-2 in CUSA rather than the 1-3 record had we lost. It’s good for momentum. Although our 3 pt% was awful we found a way to overcome it. It was a very enjoyable game to watch with excellent defense by both teams and no shortage of clutch plays. For a stretch, Wooley took over the game. If I didn’t know, I would swear he was a senior. Get the ball in Cottle’s hands at the end and dare the opponent to foul him as he is automatic at the stripe.
LA Tech, the preseason favorite, comes in next. They have lost to the 2 teams we beat. All the teams in this conference are good, we won’t have another easy game this season. Let’s see if the Owls can extend the home winning streak.

Wingman correction LA Tech lost to only 1 team we beat, Jax State.

3-26 from 3 is WILD. The shot selection haven’t really been that bad but we can’t buy a 3. If we figure out fire to just get around average from 3, we’re gonna be real dangerous in this conference.

Comments about the game experience:

I don’t go to as many games as I used to. I am glad to see much more energy than the old empty gym days.

The band (the Whooo) seems to get larger every year. I love the music and the chanting from them. Really excellent pep band.

I don’t like the court-side seats. They are dangerously close to the sideline. In tonight’s game a ref and maybe one of the players got tangled up with some spectators.

I agree that the court side seats on the floor are a joke and an accident waiting to happen. It's a money grab -- and the extra money earned is less than a rounding error.

Nothing against Wooley, but I would like to see Braden Lue get CUSA freshman of the week this time.

It’s time to get a conference road win , but it will be a tall order with this week’s western trip to UTEP and NMSU.

I agree, the stat lines may not fully show it, but Lue helped us win this week.

Wooley played really well as always. I will say, he could get much better at drawing some fouls. There were a few times he got the defender off balance or to leave their feet and it would have been an easy shot foul but he went another way with it. Obviously it’s knit picking with how well he’s playing. But it’s something he could do to elevate his game even more.

Been to two games this year, JSU and LA Tech.

Both good atmosphere and pep band does a good job. That and the music gets the place going. But where are the students? I kind of get JSU being on break, but the student section is so rough. Does no one do student marketing at KSU? It’s exciting basketball and they’ve won some games. Time to fill that place up.

Two ladies almost got taken out courtside, but the Tech player was nice and didn’t leap into their laps. Way too close to the game.

On to the game, somehow couldn’t put LA Tech away. Every time we got close to a double digit lead, the bulldogs would come back and make it 4-5 points again. Weir was a menace all night. I don’t know how he stayed out of foul trouble. The time he was on the bench (too long) were some of best looks LA Tech got. Cottle and Lue did their thing. Good conference win!
