MBB Conference Play Week 4

Wingman

While I didn’t expect to win both games, it was a heartbreaking loss because we came from behind and then held the lead for a good while.

The turnovers killed us and a good number were unforced. I think that Texas Western did a good job guarding Wooley and forcing the lefty to go to his right hand side. Overall a good road trip and I think we will beat the Miners when they visit the Convo.

Good news: the owls can stay close with a good team despite stretches of horrible play

The students were bribed with pizza and T-shirts but at least they were there. I remember when KSU would play Mercer and the Mercer students outnumbered the KSU students. That was a sad era.

Massey had KSU as a 4 point underdog and I thought KSU would lose by more than that so I wasn't surprised by the outcome.

Massey has KSU as a 5 point favorite against FIU. I think KSU is more than 5 points better than FIU and could win by double digits. KSU is 0-4 lifetime against FIU but that should change on Saturday.

Bad news: In women's action last night Liberty had a 21-0 run against KSU.
Worse news: Liberty still would have won without the 21-0 run.

I really wish this team didn't shoot so many threes. I don't even need to look at the stats to know they're going to be close to the bottom of division 1 in three points percentage.

KSU is 339/355 in 3 point pct (29.3%).

That's one sad statistic.

For a while, it looked like we'd be better than last year in that regard, but now looks like it's gonna be more of the same. Live by the 3, die by the 3, but we're not really all that good at shooting the 3.

I agree about the too many 3’s. Every game I watch where the announcers are unfamiliar with KSU comments on the high volume and low percentage beyond the arc.
This team is so effective at other aspects of the game I don’t see why we don’t change some of the quick threes into better possessions.

This team was supposed to be built to shoot the 3 ball and we just can’t. This year feels much better with our offense getting a lot of great looks but they just can’t hit.

And we don’t seem to have the skill or knowledge to switch up a game plan. We were winning down low vs liberty but didn’t attack there as much as I thought we should.

This team really needs another guy like what we expected Ricardo wright to be.

I am not a coach and I don’t play one on TV, but here are some tweaks I suggest.

If we need offense, play Ramone Seales instead of Wright.

Encourage Lue and Sherman to drive to the bucket more instead of launching a 3.

Never let Gordon shoot a 3 unless the shot clock or game clock is less than 2 seconds and he happens to have the ball.

Interesting stat our best 3 point % (50%) comes from Weir. He is 1 of 2. There is probably a reason why he doesn’t shoot more of them, so I wouldn’t give him the green light.

Seals: 13 points, 5-6 shooting, 1 rebound, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block in 31 minutes
Wright did not play.

Lue 6-8 shooting 3-3 from 3-point land - I guess they were all good shots to take :-)
Sherman 3-5 shooting, 0-1 from 3

Gordon: Stats show 0 three-point shots, but I swear he launched a bad one with under 5 to go, maybe it was a long 2 pt attempt

I watched the game on ESPN+. How did Weir get injured? I missed that.
