MBB Conference Play Week 7

Massey REALLY doesn't like us this week. We beat both of these teams at home, but bother were close and it took overtime for SHSU.

Thurs 2/13 @ 7:30PM - @ Lousiana Tech (Massey 105, Net 122)
Sat 2/15 @ 3:00PM - @ Sam Houston State (Massey 213, Net 202)

Louisiana Tech is gonna be tough without Weir. Unless Gordon has a great game and we shoot lights out I'm finding a hard time envisioning a win on the road in Ruston.

I'm surprised we aren't favored or at least predicted to be closer vs. SHSU today. I get they've *barely lost all their conference games. But I don't see it. I don't think we played a good game last time out vs. them and still pulled it out.

Gonna predict another 1-1 week and we really need it if we're gonna stay in the driver seat of this race for a top 6 seed.

Bad news: KSU is 342/355 in 3 point percentage at 29.35%.

Worse news: In conference play only, KSU is last in 3 point percentage at 25.1%.

Unbelievable news: Despite being the worst 3 point shooting team in the conference, KSU is first in 3 point attempts.

Well, never have I been so excited to be so wrong. What a game by the boys!

Kmase14 Yup, I never expected such a blowout while the announcers kept repeating how often LA Tech wins at home...

Meanwhile, Sam Houston got an actual victory (not a near victory) against Jax State. This narrows Jax State's lead on us. I will also wade into the waters of basketball superstition and say that I think Sammy was due for a win, and their getting it the game before we play them on their home court is good for us. We obviously can't take anyone lightly and our first road trip sweep would be so sweet.

It was good to see KSU shoot 3's better and the other team to be sub 30%. I had a feeling that might happen after my last post. 🙂 (But my belief that they shoot too many given the their percentage hasn't changed.)

Maybe it's just me, but I really didn't like the announcing crew. Once a year is more than enough.

After last night's action Massey has SH as a 4 point favorite.

Another week of winning the first of 2 when we were all hoping for a split. Now we all get our hopes up of winning both! This is probably the best opportunity we’ve had all year to put together a real winning streak between now and Liberty.

If the defense keeps up and we just shoot slightly better than our season average I feel pretty good about today.

No excuse for getting a technical in a 1 point game with 2:40 left.

While getting a technical at the end of the game is inexcusable, it isn’t what concerns me most. I am more worried with the fact that we put ourselves in the hole by playing poorly to end the first half in too many games. It is fun to watch us erase 16 against MTSU and 20 against SHSU, but these games should not have come down to a last minute play. I don’t know if it is because we get out coached in these 10 minutes of most games, if it is a lack of experience and maturity, or rotation issues. However, I think we are more talented than most the league and need to figure out this piece of the game before conference tournament time.
