NCAA Tournament

Wingman

After losing the last 2 games of the regular season against 2 of the weaker teams in C-USA, I was ready to write the Owls off. Then WOW an excellent run in the conference tournament and a bid to the NCAA championship.

If the tournament committee is in a mischievous mood: put Queens and KSU against an each other in a first four (play in) game.

bb_fan

Lunardi has KSU vs Prairie View (SWAC 8 seed) in the play in game; winner facing Florida.

Queens is a 15 seed facing CT.

I don't like the play in games, but as long as it exists I don't mind KSU being in it. Gives the team the opportunity to win a game (and PV shouldn't be a problem) before the inevitable.

Find out tonight if Lunardi is correct

The Athletic has KSU as a 15 against Houston and Queens as a 16 against Duke.

Different sources have us as a 14-16 seed. I really doubt we are a 16 seed with so many other teams having lower net, I think we are right on the 14-15 line so I would be ok with either. Obviously you tend to get better matchups at the 14. Also hoping we can get placed in Greenville but that’s probably wishful thinking.

I watched the MEAC final yesterday. That court had 4 (!) 3 point lines on it. I'd hate to play on that.

bb_fan

I think KSU ends up a 15, but I hope they end up going to Dayton with the opportunity to get a win. And Wingmans idea about playing Queens would really be a nice touch.

Go Owls!

There are really so few teams in the tourney with a lower net than us? It honestly sucks to be the champion of a conference like CUSA and end up with the same seed (or lower) than what we had as the ASUN champ. Obviously, we didn't do ourselves any favors with some of those losses, but still.

bb_fan

The good: Auburn didn't make it. Bruce Pearl can STFU.

The bad: Miami in as an 11 seed play in team. Play in? Pu-leeze.

No complaints: KSU a bit high at 14, but that's ok. Gonzaga is well coached and always worth a watch. Good game

KSU 20.5 point underdog as of Tuesday morning.

idk if we can, but if we keep this team together for next year, that’s a scary team!. Amir, Kaden, and Trey all flashed their skills this year. RJ and Frank would be REAL solid, and if Lue finally to put it all together, we’d definitely come in as CUSA favorites, may even get a solid MTE at the start of the year.

Great season by the owls! Best college basketball team in Georgia!

Owlref

That was one heck of a defensive showing by the owls! I also hope that we can keep this core together, but in this day of NIL it is unlikely at a school that has next to no money for NIL. I was hoping the freshmen would fly under the radar, but I think especially Taylor and maybe Trey could garner looks from other mid majors. RJ could also garner interest. Even if this is our last time with this squad, it was a special performance!

Wingman

Impressive showing by freshman Kaden Rickard too, for having his best performance of the year on the biggest stage.

Question: Do you think we will lose Pettway?

Owlref

I haven’t heard any rumblings yet but if I was an AD at Troy or USF I would be reaching out. I don’t know if Pettway would entertain Troy but USF could be an interesting fit for both. USF is about to lose an Oats disciple and the area has the services Pettways family would need. He could also keep his Alabama recruiting and have greater NIL

Does Troy have that much money? I'm not sure a few thousand is worth having to rebuild again. USF would be a legit concern.

Great showing by the Owls though. Glad that we at least represented our conference well.

I don’t know how much interest Pett will really get. This year wasn’t like Amir’s season when we won the regular season and conference tournament. Obviously we dealt with a lot of injuries and other things and it was very impressive. I don’t know how much of an upgrade Troy would be and if we couldn’t match or get close to matching.

I’d think Pett is thinking if he can turn this into a pay bump and increase in NIL he’d be able to retain most of the team and fill out the roster to come back and be conference favorites and run it back into a bigger job.
