I don’t remember who said it but one of the players said the assistants were like head coaches. I think the best way to keep our momentum is to quickly promote an assistant and work on keeping the players. If we hire from outside we start over from scratch. I have been a fan since the Legendary Tony Ingle was coach and I am tired of starting over.

As far as Overton goes, I don't know what's true and what's not about him, but I had somebody else corroborate the jist of what Ben Moore has said. Apparently it's top secret because I cant get any further details. There's a lot of smoke about the dept being a mess and run horribly and I've been hearing it for years. I'm not anti-Overton. I don't give a shit one way or another if he's fired or kept, but I got sick of hearing all the scuttlebutt and I think it's about time somebody brought out this issue so maybe journalists will at least look into it now that KSU is on the main scene and moving up soon. Overton has done some good things as somebody mentioned like hiring AAR and Coe. He pushed us to CUSA, etc. I'm not the one who has to suffer from any mismanagement, as he's done fine in his hirings, but I don't want KSU to be a bad place to work especially if it involves keeping all of our coaches (not just basketball). Today felt like a good day to just rock the boat a little bit.

Wingman hiring from outside would go through a more standard process. Then again standard for us is about two months lol. Hiring internally would likely mean having to fast track things tremendously. Remember last time we hired from within? If the core kids agreed to return to play for Fletcher and not enter the portal, I'd be down 100%. If we're just doing this to hope for the best with the roster, and coaches have to talk the kids back out of the portal, then that's a giant risk.

Yeah I really don't blame Overton either. Plus it's a weird spot to be in. At the end of the day, Abdur-Rahim only had one winning season and didn't win a game in the tournament or ever beat a p5 school. Abdur-Rahim was very fortunate to get such a big offer from USF and even be considered for a P5 job. I mean look at Tobin Anderson. Dude was a proven winner at the D2 level, first year coaching a small D1 school and he not only wins his play in game, but beats a 1 seed. The Best Tobin could get right after was Iona. I was actually surprised Abdur-Rahim was getting looks. Usually you got to win some tournament games.

At the end of the day, we probably couldn't afford Abdur-Rahim right now and I don't blame him at all for leaving for at least 4x the money. It was a tough spot for KSU basketball to be in, but hopefully we can keep some of our guys and make a run next year.

KingOwlLegacy Last time we hired internally was when the program was a big fail. (Lallathin replaced Preston for the newbies), Dumb idea. Many schools have hired internally and with a successfully program and good culture it can work. Queena coach was in internal hire for their first year of D1 and they beat us and they almost beat us a second time and if they had we would not be having this conversation.

I think about that often, if Queens had gotten one more bucket in the tournament quarterfinals, then we would have not gone to the tournament and AAR would stay put. Funny how 1 bucked can make a huge difference.

If we stay internal, Fletcher is the obvious choice. And honestly, I'm fine with that other than a splashy bigger name move.

If you like what AAR did, you have to realize he didn't do it alone, which means that Fletcher probably played a huge role and deserves a serious interview. I don't have an opinion one way or the other.

I wouldn't count out William Small. He is more senior than Fletcher. I assume at least one of them will be going to USF

AAR pulls out and reviews his New Coach Handbook, puts on his new green tie, and tells the people what they want to hear.

“You look down the road and you look who’s in the Final Four, the question I ask you guys is, why not us?” Abdur-Rahim said. “Why not South Florida? Why is that not attainable here? It is. We’ve got everything we need to be successful. Now we’ve just got to get to work and it’s got to be an everyday thing.”

I wonder if he said the same to the USF players.

I agree. And it could be syntax and nuance, but that sentence has been in my mind as well for years. It rubbed me the wrong way from the beginning. Yeah the old players weren't good, but I just don't like when people say stuff like that. Maybe he didn't realize how bad the team was, I don't know. Anyways, I believe there's certain ways of saying things to get the message across without sounding like you're making some strong commitment. Saying "right now, these are my guys that I'm rolling with, we're gonna see what we have" would have been better.

Instead of saying the job isn't a stepping stone, maybe say I love Kennesaw it feels like home to me and I'm attempting to build this thing up a bit more every single day.

It's all irrelevant now and not a big deal at the end of the day, but words matter to me.
