Well that sucks. I really thought we were going to keep Abdur-Rahim for another year at least.

I wouldn't be as upset if he hadn't said all those things about KSU NOT being a stepping stone.

I was hoping to get at least one more year to build off of last year's success. If KSU can somehow keep most of their guys from last year's team, I think we'll be fine. But I'm not counting on it. I could see our top 3 guys transferring to USF.

They've made a big mistake IMO. Glad I haven't even called about season tickets, was thinking about it too. Not now. If they hire Fletcher to be HC, then maybe so. Give him a chance.

That's disappointing. I was hoping we'd hold onto him a little longer. Happy for him though. USF is a big step up. If he can put together a competitive team in the aac, he'll have some real big schools after him soon.

Hopefully Milton can nail the new hire. I think AAR did a lot to elevate the program and show candidates this job has potential.

Even during the dark years I thought basketball season tickets were the best value in Atlanta sports. If you like basketball I wouldnt let the coaching change and any related fallout change anyone's mind about purchasing.

Congratulations, if you are making what Brian Gregory made at USF it;s more than 5 times what KSU was paying you. It's a move you have to make. Good luck.

A little unsolicited advice, keep your expenses at the $300K per year level, just in case it doesn't work out you can coach at a school with a smaller budget or take a top assistant job somewhere.

Congratulations, you hired a dynamic young head coach. I hope it works out for you.
Nevermind that he has had only 1 winning season, 1 good recruiting class, and has zero wins versus any team the caliber of what you normally see in your conference schedule. I hope that doesn't create too much blowback from your alumni and you have some patience because even if he can build something at your university it may take a few years.

Congratulations you have just bought yourself a new coach.

To Milton Overton,

Congratulations on the historic season for KSU in D1 basketball. As can happen the coach you have wisely chose is moving on. Determine who is the best candidate for head coach from your existing assistants. Consult with stakeholders, including the players, to get their input. Move swiftly with a strong ass offer, I suggest offering what AAR was making. Start talking with the players about the virtues of staying at KSU.

Congratulations on the great season. As can happen the coach that recruited you is moving on. Still, there are many reasons to stay at KSU. If you liked the NCAA tournament experience, your best chance at repeating that will be to stay at KSU. AAR will be building up USF and it will be unlikely he takes them to the tourney before you graduate. If you transfer to another program you may not find a good fit and may not get a lot of playing time. Your best outcome for basketball may be here.

Tell the AD who you would prefer to be the next head coach, it may be someone you like to work with. Before entering the portal consider your academic and social life a KSU and he quality of your overall college experience. Is having your friends and family attend games important to you? Take the big picture into consideration.

I was hurt to see this news of AAR leaving. However, KingOwl, among others, mentioned "money talks". I think KSU is a more attractive job than it was four years ago, in addition to the CUSA move. For AAR, its going to be a challenge in the new conference with stronger competition. I wish coach AAR success.

I wonder the timetable for hiring the new coach and the candidates that are/will be involved. Will AAR take all his assistants with him or will one of them be a candidate? How will the fan base respond? How will KSU do? I wonder how long Overton will stay until he moves to the next position. Very curious as to how the coaching search will go.

Congrats to AAR, I hope he does well at USF..

To the KSU fans going apocalyptic, calm down..If someone offered you 4 or 5 times what your current employer could pay you, it's probable you would leave also.. Blaming Overton is absurd. Is he a great AD?..I don't know..But I do know our overall sports have improved under his tenure and we did get an invitation to move up. Listening to rumors or taking the word of a social media person from another school, who by the way hates KSU with a passion, and told me directly his "sources" at KSU said the CUSA rumors were false, shouldn't come into the conversation at all. Obviously his "sources" at KSU weren't very reliable..

KSU MBB will be fine. It's a far better job now than it was 4 years ago. I think we will land a coach that will keep us moving forward..

Losing coaches to a better conference and higher profile schools is a way of life for mid majors who have had success. Take it as a compliment..

bb_fan I think knowing the state of GA is paramount for anyone being considered. AAR's already established relationships with highschool coaches across the state was the key to the rebuild. I assume MO will focus on assistants for regional P5s along with mid major head coaches from nearby states.. I'm sure a few fired/failed southeast based coaches could also throw their hats into the ring..
