bb_fan GT worries me. They are financially strapped, and have to replace their coach.. The hometown guy coaching the resurgent feel good story just up the road might be where they would look..AAR wouldn't cost a ton which would offset the buyout they will have to pay Pastner..

TMac1325 AAR said recently that Kennesaw State isn't a stepping stone. Do you buy that? I don't. I'd leave in a heartbeat if Tech threw 4x my salary at me.

KingOwlLegacy 100%.. No coach in his right mind from the ASun or CUSA would turn down an ACC job, especially one 15 minutes from where he grew up.. It's a minor miracle we have been able to keep Bo, but he would leave in a flash for an ACC or SEC gig..

And if AAR gets the next job, we have to hope the foundation at KSU is good enough to help find the next guy..

If AAR left, Dip Metress would be my 1st call if I were Overton.. Knows the state, has built a D2 juggernaut at Augusta, and has just enough baggage that KSU could be his final destination..

TMac1325 I've heard Dips name for years with these openings. Wouldn't be a bad pick. My number one choice for the KSU opening after Skinner left was Josh Schertz (also a D2 guy). Schertz is in his second year at Indiana State and they are one spot in the NET rankings behind us.

KingOwlLegacy I think Dip would have already gotten a D1 job if not for the grade fixing scandal they had a couple of years ago. But, I liked the way he fell on his sword and took all the blame, even though a bunch of folks were involved. Hopefully lessons learned..But the guy wins.

I would be fine with a successful guy that has shown he can win at D1 like Schertz, but I would wonder if we could afford a guy that has already proven it at the D1 level. I have no clue what the CUSA move will do for our coaching budgets, but I know both Bo and AAR would currently be very underpaid compared to the rest of the conference.

TMac1325 I wasn't even aware about the grade fixing thing. No way we would go for that, especially after our previous APR issues.

Yeah, we can't get Schertz now of course. But there has to be another up and coming D2 coach who's ready to make the jump. Getting another Assistant to transition would slow the process. It's sad we're even discussing this right now, but then again it's sort of a good thing. The transitory nature of the KSU basketball job sucks. AAR does have flexibility if and when he chooses to leave. He can make the jump this season and take all his guys or wait one more year and run it back with his guys at KSU with a clear path to the tournament and leave after next year.

KingOwlLegacy The one thing about AAR is I don't think he is extremely money motivated. I know a guy who is friends with his family and he said that Shareef set up all his brothers and sisters for life out of his NBA earnings. So maybe AAR will be like Bo, and want to see his baby program grow up at KSU..

I think AAR has done a nice job, but if you are an AD at a school that wants to be a basketball powerhouse or return to its former glory, how closely do you look at a guy who has had one great recruiting class and one winning season? And it took him 4 years to get there. That’s a big gamble.
If AAR stays, keeps his players and has a better season next year, that is a lot of ifs but then he will be in line for a plum job.

Would you guys say this is accurate...we underachieved the past 2 years, and right now we made up the lost ground and are finally where we should be?

KingOwlLegacy I think it's a longer process to turn around the attitude/culture of a team that's habitually awful than a team that's just had a couple of bad years. But once that foundation is laid, I think it sets you up for sustainable success. AAR has built a good base.
