On Thursday the Owls travel to DeLand, FL for a meeting with the Stetson Hatters. It's a matchup of 2 conference leading teams with 5-1 records.
In the offseason, I thought Stetson was headed for a disappointing year when big scorers Rob Perry (now at Murray State) and Chase Johnston (now at FGCU) hit the transfer portal.
Stetson coach Donnie Jones picked up his sixth man Luke Brown from Ball State who has helped with the shooting. He also added a solid contributor in Sam Peek a graduate student who previously played at Wesleyan University a D3 school.
Both teams have excellent perimeter games. Stetson's Wheza Panzo and Luke Brown are both making 50% or more on shots from beyond the arc.
I think where the Owls will have an advantage is in the post. The Hatter's Josh Smith has improved but he more of a finesse player and I wonder if he will be able to handle the strength of Demond Robinson.
I like the Owl's chances, but if Brown and Panzo get hot from 3-point territory, the Hatters can he hard to beat.
